Nerds and Geeks...Is there really a difference? I think they are extremely different. I think that a nerd in junior high school has to be a little smart. He/She does school work like math or science out of school either out of competitiveness or love for the subject. For instance, lets say there is a boy, Richard, who REALLY LOVES MATH and feels very competitive about it. He joins S.T.E.M Club at his school which isn't competitive, it's just for kids who want to do more math after school. But he also joins Mathletes which is a competitive team that goes to competitions and everything. Now in most schools these clubs would not be focussed on lower math like fractions into percents or inequalities but more on systems of equations or polynomials! Now the reason for those clubs doing harder math is because the school assumes people doing extra math must be pretty good at it. That is why Richard would have to be decent at math. Now Geeks are a completely different ball game. Unlike Nerds, Geeks can be totally stupid. What makes a geek a geek to me is a person who devotes much of his or her time to fandom of something like someone who writes fan fiction is a complete geek. But someone who just reads fan fiction is on the line. You have really become a geek when your career as an adult is centered around you fandom of something! Like a comic book analyst, english professor, or World War Two professor. If someone is a geek their clothes will often involve fandom or something they're obsessed with. I hope you like this post!Stay posted,
Nina
