The Life of Adeline Nelson
Bam! All of the
lights went out. Quincy whimpered. Quinn screamed. Kimberly cried, and I sang.
Now, you may think this is a weird reaction to a sudden power outage or
flickering of lights. But to me it was not so sudden. I knew someone was going
to turn the lights off on Sunday night, October 13 at 12:01 pm. How I knew that
I cannot tell you, but I can tell you one thing, and that is, not to scream
when you’re scared.
This is a phrase that
my great-grandfather tells me every time he is separated from me. My great-grandfather
is a blacksmith in Time Town. Time Town is a small run-down city located just
above where the prime meridian and the equator meet. You might be wondering why
this town is called Time Town and why Time
Town is above where the prime
meridian and the equator meet. Well, if you are I better explain…
First of all Time
Town is no ordinary place. In fact, you might even call it magical. Time Town
is where time is kept track of and kept safe. Actually, Time Town is where time
is made. And because time is made in Time Town [my birth place] I have been
able to keep track of time since I was born. Just like all of my fellow Time
Townies. And the reason I knew the lights would flicker off on Sunday, October
13th, and 12:01 pm is because I can not just tell time I can also predict it. In
other words, I can tell the future.
