Ms. Marvel

Hello! This post as you can see is about the new comic "Ms.  Marvel." Ms. Marvel is about a young Muslim girl who wishes her parents would stop being so protective. This is the first comic book with a Muslim character ever to be made. There is another Ms. Marvel but she is white, unlike Kamala the main character in Ms. Marvel. I don't want to ruin the plot for you so I will stop here. I hope you have a chance to read Ms. Marvel.

Other Reviews

Iowa City, Iowa, United States.  Iowa City has a special place in my heart. I always feel close to Iowa City. Iowa is a very underestimated state. It's not all corn and soy bean fields. Iowa City is one of the best places to visit in Iowa. Iowa City is overflowing with writers, poets, and artists. The best book store in Iowa City is Prairie Lights. Some other destinations in Iowa City are the co-op, [New Pioneer] Basta, [A great Italian resatruant] and in the summer of course, you have to go to Taproot. Taproot is an amazing nature camp, and after school program.
Despite its bad weather, Iowa City is and will always be a great place to visit.

 Capitola, California, United States
Located near Santa Cruz, Capitola is a great place to visit. My favorite thing to do in this city is kayak. There are many great beaches to kayak on in California, but my favorite overall is the beach in Capitola. While kayaking in Capitola I have seen seals, sea otters, sea lions, and one of my family's friends has even seen a whale!
It is also very easy to drive to Capitola from Berkeley or Santa Cruz. I recommend Capitola as a family destination.

Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers

So, I know I have mentioned Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers before, but this time I have a whole report on them. Here you go.

Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers

Campephilus Principalis

What if you found out that Dodo Birds weren’t extinct? Well, the same thing happened with Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers. In the 19th century, the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker’s population started to decline. By the mid 1900’s they were thought to be extinct.  For fifty years they were considered to be deceased. But in April 2005 a man caught video camera footage of an Ivory-Billed Woodpecker along the Cache River in Arkansas.

Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers are beautiful creatures. Males have a beautiful red patch located behind their eyes.  Females do not. Though, both genders of this bird have an exotic ivory colored beak. But, it is not made of ivory; actually, it is made of bone. The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker’s colors include white, [on the inside of their wings and around their neck,] black, [their main color,] and red, [only for the males.] The Ivory-Billed Woodpecker has an average wingspan of 30-31inches and a body length of 18-20 inches. They weigh up to 16-20 ounces [450-570g.]

Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers live throughout the southeastern United States.  They like wooded areas with access to water.  These birds require an area in which there are a variety of dead trees. These trees vary from pines to cabbage palmetto to bald cypress to sugarberry, and red maple. Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers like dead trees because they can peck at them and eat some of the dead, dry bark.

Though Ivory -Billed Woodpeckers do eat dry bark, their primary foods are bugs and insects. Dry bark isn’t the only food they eat that is associated with trees; they also eat beetle larvae. To get the larvae, Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers peck behind the dry bark on dead trees and eat the food beneath it.

Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers are thought to couple for life. These birds usually mate every year between January and May. Generally two to five eggs are laid at a time. The usual time span the eggs are kept warm is three to five weeks. The young woodpeckers typically learn to fly seven or eight weeks after they have hatched.  Parents keep feeding their hatchlings two months after they’re born.  The average life span for an Ivory-Billed Woodpecker is around 20-30 years.

Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers are very interesting creatures. They are one of the largest woodpeckers in the world. These birds are thought to be the largest woodpecker north of Mexico or the third largest woodpecker in the world.  Sources vary and some say that Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers are the largest woodpecker in the world. The largest woodpecker that was known to live is the Imperial woodpecker. Though sadly, this magnificent bird is now extinct.  The last video of an Imperial was taken in 1956 around the time when Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers became extinct.

The idea of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker still existing is a fascinating concept. Who knows if the man who took the video really found the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker? There have been further sightings, but not of them have been confirmed, just like the video made in 2005. If none of them were real, so much would be lost. Then, the bird would be extinct. Know one will ever see a woodpecker with an ivory beak hammering away at dry bark ever again. Not a single person will ever be able to see this amazing creature roaming through the forests of Arkansas.

Olympics

So as you probably know, the Sochi Winter Olympics are taking place right now. So I decided to do a post about the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

In the 2014 Winter Olympics there are gold medals [like always.] But this year the gold medal winners will not only receive a beautiful gold medal but they will also receive a part of the meteorite that crashed in Russia this time last year.

I my opinion, this is a good time to be in the Olympics. I would love to own a piece of a meteorite!

One of my favorite sports in the Olympics is figure skating.  [I recommend Blades of Glory] Though I do like all of them.

Well that's it for now,

Reviews

Hello people, today I am going to write reviews on many things. Mostly travel places though. Like for instance, one of the reviews might be about a Greek island and etc........Let's get started!

[Milos is the purple dot above were it says Milos]
Milos, Greece.
Milos is beautiful island near Paros in the Aegean. I love the island of Milos because it's not too "touristy" and you see more Greek natives! Also in Milos there is a wonderful beach called Sarakiniko. You will be able to see this beach in the photos after the map. Sarakiniko is surrounded by amazing rock formations.  So, if you get tired of swimming, you can climb! [Or at least that's what I did...] Another place in Milos is Pollonia. This cute town is a wonderful place to visit or even stay at. I recommend Pollonia as a destination.

I will post more reviews later but for now,

Books, books, and more books!

Hello! So, if you haven't noticed I am kind of taking a break from the clues. So, before further ado, I would like to share my opinion on Lego's. Normally I would just explain but this girl does it better. To find out what I'm talking about go here: http://www.buzzfeed.com/tabathaleggett/lego-just-got-told-off-by-a-7-year-old-girl Okay, now I have some opinions to share about movies and books. Here it goes...

THE  BEST BOOKS OF THE DAY
[For 9-12 year old's]

Number Three:  Wonder, by R. J. Palacio
This book is one of the most emotional books I have read. Wonder is a book about when a boy with a not-so perfect face goes to school for the first time. This book might break your heart but it is so touching you have to read it. CAUTION! Wonder might make you cry.

Number Two: The Tiger Rising, by Kate Dicamillo
The Tiger Rising is one of my most beloved books of all time. This book is a quick read but a good one! The Tiger Rising is about a boy named Rob and how he lets go of his feelings. [There are lots of metaphors in this book.] The Tiger Rising might also make you cry but only at the very end.

Number One: Out of My Mind, by Sharon M. Draper
I love this book so much! Out of My Mind is a novel about a girl named Melody who can't move, talk, walk, or communicate in anyway. Until she finds a device that will let her communicate for the first time in her life. Melody spends every day learning things like the ABC's with her fellow special needs classmates. But Melody knows the ABC's backwards and forwards. In fact Melody know a lot. But not everyone likes that. Please read Out of My Mind. I guaranty you will love it but at the very end the story becomes very sad.

Well, that's it for now so,
